Raytown High (MO.) quarterback Joe Straws is preparing to bounce back from an injury plagued junior season. Bear Boulevard talked with Straws about where his recruitment stands and what's up next.

Joe Straws' junior season was cut short by injury, however that didn't stop him from showing potential to play at the next level.

"I played fairly well last season," said Straws. "Unfortunately I broke my collar bone in the second quarter of the fifth game. But in the first four games, I threw for seven touchdowns, no interceptions and I rushed for one touchdown."

The 6-foot, 185-pound junior is a good athlete on the field, sporting sub 4.5 speed, but he's not just an athlete.

"I play quarterback for my high school, so one of my strengths is being poised and making good decisions. Also where my arm lacks, my overall athleticism makes up for it," said Straws.

As the summer approaches, a couple of schools have come calling and expressed interest in Straws.

"I've heard from Northern Iowa and Missouri State," he said.

"I like Missouri State. I was able to take a college visit to look at the academic side of things last November. I was able to get in touch with one of their assistants, Ben Barkema. He came to our school to see us lift. We were able to talk a little afterwards," he continued.

Straws doesn't know when he's going to take his visits and when he's going to camp, but he's got some schools in mind that he would like to check out.

"I plan on going to a lot of team camps this summer, including: Missouri State, Northwest Missouri State, Missouri West, Nebraska, Northern Iowa and possibly Kansas," Straws finished.
